Description
S. Colt manufactured the “Dragoon” revolver in various forms from 1848-1861. There were about 20,000 pieces produced. The 6-shot revolvers (designed as a solution to the numerous problems with the Walker model) were .44 caliber and were recognized by Texas Rangers. The “Dragoons” were used extensively during the Civil War and Old West era. Stage drivers, express guards and other Westerners with heavy shooting to do, began using the big new heavy Colts, as the Texas Rangers and Army were doing.
